With the kids now 5 and 8, we decided to get active and adventurous this Mother’s Day.  Glenwood Canyon is a short 40 minute drive from us, so we packed a picnic, loaded bikes on the car, and dressed for hiking!   Parking can be difficult at the official Hanging Lake trail head, so we parked at the Bair Ranch rest stop 4 miles east of hanging lake instead.  The bike ride was relatively flat and easy both ways.  My 8 year old easily biked this and we used a tag-along bike for our 5 year old.  The bike ride took 20 – 30 minutes each way.   There are bike racks at the base of the trail head – remember your bike lock (we did not have  a lock, and the bikes remained untouched during our 2 hour hike:))!  The trail is pretty steep and rocky the whole way.  My 5 year old did his fair share of complaining and rest stops – but made it the entire 1.2 miles on his own two feet.  The last 10 minutes is super steep, rocky and has quite a drop off on one side, so watch those little ones.  The look on my kids faces when we rounded the final corner to the lake was absolutely priceless.  “It looks like something at Disneyland”, my 8 year old proclaimed.  The beauty is truly breathtaking and makes the hike more than worth it!   You can visit https://www.visitglenwood.com/things-to-do/hanging-lake for more details.
